Dirty seats.
A woman named Alex claims she was kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight to Los Angeles after her kitten spilled in her carrier, forcing her to spend the day in a random city. An X post detailing the widespread astrophe currently boasts over 20 million views at the time of writing.
The user, who goes by @barelyalex, wrote: “Finger down if your kitten got in his carrier on the plane bc he got scared by a rough landing and the crew was so mad about the wind they kicked him out. fly and left you in a random city for 12 hours and now you’re rationing cat litter and food to a family bathroom.”
In a follow-up post in which she tagged Southwest Airlines, the flyer claimed her seven-month-old kitten, named Oni, had passed out in its carrier after being startled during the turbulent landing.
Since she had a close relationship, Alex chose to clean the mess in the toilet. However, the frantic flyer decided to throw the soiled towels in the bin as she didn’t know if they would be fried and assumed the bins would be emptied regularly.
“I realized I had to change tactics and ask the flight attendants for a trash bag and explain what happened,” she recalls. “They are very sweet and understanding and I finish cleaning up and put the rest of the litter in the garbage bag so they can easily go away.”
This may have been the fatal mistake because they apparently did not remove the debris between flights, preventing the wind from dispersing in time for the next trip.
To make matters worse, Alex learned from said crew members that her next leg was scheduled for the same plane.
The new crew was much less sympathetic to Oni’s faecal fiasco and decided to raise a stink.
“I got on and I see the crew has changed, but apparently they informed the new crew what happened and they had to close that bathroom because of the smell of trash,” the passenger recounted. “I go and sit behind. [The] The flight attendant approaches me in a hostile manner saying they are worried because they had to close that bathroom for the flight and asks me.
At one point, they even told her that “the bathroom is not your litter box,” bringing the passenger to tears, according to the post.
Unable to tolerate the stench, the flight crew ultimately decided to remove Alex and Oni from the connecting flight.
The only consolation was that a knowledgeable Southwest agent gave her a $200 voucher for a future flight, and eventually she was booked on another plane with a connection.
After an unscheduled interminable layover in an unspecified city, the flyer and her pet finally arrived at LAX — hours after they were originally scheduled to touch down.
Alex said the layoff was particularly upsetting as she had only packed for a short flight and was therefore forced to ration her supplies for her kitten.
X posters felt sorry for Alex over the terrible state of the flight with one writing, “Wait, the smell was in the bathroom and they were still mad about it??? Worse things happen in those bathrooms!!!!!”
“Also funny they don’t take out the trash between flights?” wrote another.
A third patron stated, “PLEASE COMPLAIN ON THE AIRLINE THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!!
“And a $200 voucher is ridiculous for more than 6 hours of delay,” they added. “I’m so sorry this happened to you and your kitten.”
In a similar pooch incident in September, a transatlantic Delta flight had to be diverted to New York City after a passenger experienced an apparent bout of diarrhea during the flight.
