What shot?
Some of the nation’s biggest fast-food franchises don’t use “real whole eggs” in their breakfast meals, a surprising new report claims.
Fox Business identified the alleged perpetrators in an investigation published Tuesday, while also naming major restaurants that thus serve whole eggs – and the findings may shock you.
According to the paper, “The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) notes that food manufacturers often use pasteurized egg products because of their convenience and ease of handling and storage,” made the practice perfectly high.
While Starbucks says its breakfast sandwich contains “whole eggs,” Fox Business claims the “long list of additives” means they can’t technically be categorized as “100% real eggs.”
Additives are said to include “water, soybean oil, modified food starch, whey solids and citric acid.”
Meanwhile, the publication claims Dunkin’ similarly advertises the use of “real whole eggs” in a variety of breakfast items.
However, this classification is “in the eye of the beholder” due to additives in the egg such as water, modified corn starch, xanthan gum, and citric acid.
Meanwhile, Subway eggs contain additives including dextrose, guar gum, propylene glycol and glycerin, according to Fox Business.
The fast food giant has pledged to switch to eggs from cage-free chickens, but has not fully done so “due to currently limited supply”.
Chick-fil-A is similarly working to serve 100% cage-free eggs, but admits that its egg products are currently made from eggs, water and other additives.
Fox Business identifies Burger King as the fifth fast food franchise to stop serving 100% whole eggs.
The egg products included in their breakfasts are supposedly a “pasteurized liquid egg mixture containing a number of additives.”
However, the report cited five companies that use 100% whole eggs for breakfast.
McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Panera, Wendy’s and Whataburger offer the real deal, according to Fox Business findings.
