A woman has shocked many after discovering the unique dress code rule at her gym.
Caitlin Emiko is an Australian influencer currently living in New York City. Recently, during a “day in my life” video, she revealed that her gym has a unique dress code rule.
Greenwich Village Athletic, a team training gym, requires its members to wear only black clothing to practice.
While it may sound like something out of a “cult,” the private fitness chain introduced it in an effort to create an inclusive, non-judgmental training environment.
She went into more detail about the unusual dress code for this on her TikTok account, where she explained that as a result, she has no idea of someone’s style outside of the gym and hasn’t come across one. Common negative thoughts such as “I don’t look as cool as everyone else here.”
The video attracted a lot of attention.
“So cool about black activewear” is there a reason why,” asked one social media user.
A dress code at the gym, that’s crazy,” added another.
“Wait that’s a really good idea,” one person commented.
“I just do it anyway it helps me not think about what to wear and black is always flattering even if I’m not feeling well it still gets me to the gym,” said one social media user.
Michelle, head of content and marketing at the Athletics Club, revealed the reason for the dress code in a TikTok video last year – and confirmed it was to eliminate comparison.
“When we are on the run, it makes it easier to stay together. She also looks very cute. “It makes my life easier, so all the photos look aesthetic,” she said.
It comes after an Australian gym owner who controversially banned members from filming themselves working out sparked industry-wide change as other fitness facilities around the world followed suit.
Melbourne-based Doherty Gym founder and owner Tony Doherty has spoken out about the fallout from his decision to ban members from recording their fitness routines after he noticed his gym had turned into a “circus”.
After completely outlawing tripods at all of Doherty’s gyms – there are three in Melbourne and one in Perth – in February, Doherty spoke in September about the effects his decision had on the fitness industry.
– Honestly, [tripods] I was getting my head in,” he told the Dos and D Podcast.
“One day I went to the gym and there were seven people using crutches in a room and I’m like, ‘I’ve got to wrap that thing and wrap it around somebody’s head. It was out of control,” said Doherty. “There were juniors, there were seniors saying, ‘I have to film it for my coach and send it to them,’ and I just said stop it.”
