Human penis turns into bone – doctors want to use shock waves to break it

It was a different kind of r-bone.

A man’s routine visit to the doctor turned into a nightmare after doctors discovered his penis was turning into bone, as detailed in a study published in Urology Case Reports.

The unnamed patient, who was in his 60s, had reported to the doctor’s office for “a knee trauma,” according to the study. During the visit, he also alerted the doctors to a pain in his penis.

Upon examination, doctors found no prostate swelling, unusual discharge or any of the usual markers of phallic agony, so they performed an X-ray to look for possible pelvic fractures, according to Live Science.

The footage revealed one TOUGH truth: the patient had “extensive, plaque-like calcification” along the length of his manhood.

Doctors diagnosed the poor soul with penile ossification, in which calcium salts build up in the organ’s tissues, forming an extraskeletal structure much like a bone.

With this diagnosis, the patient becomes one of only 40 patients to be diagnosed with this condition.

Despite this abnormality below, the man declined further examination or treatment for penile petrification, which is generally corrected through topical medications, injections, or oral sedatives.

The condition can also be treated through shock wave therapy, where doctors use sound pulses to break up the calcified mass.

The sudden departure of the patient left the cause of his calcified phallus unclear. However, doctors believe he may have been suffering from Peyronie’s disease, a condition that causes the penis to become inflamed and scar tissue to form.

The hardened plate reduces flexibility and can cause the phallus to bend during an erection or appear shorter when erect.

This can lead to erectile dysfunction or pain during erection.

Other possible causes include metabolic disorders, late-stage kidney disease, repeated trauma to the penis, and even sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea and syphilis.
